The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty slipped for the second straight session on Wednesday amid selling in selected metal, energy, IT and auto stocks. Overall, market sentiments remained cautious ahead of the outcome of state elections and next week’s policy review by the US Federal Reserve.

Equity benchmark Sensex closed 97.62 points down at 28,901, while the Nifty50 ended 22.60 points down at 8,924.

Time to fly high: Aviation stocks soared up to 6 per cent in Wednesday’s trade amid reports that the Delhi government will cut tax on air turbine fuel (ATF) to 1 per cent from 25 per cent in a bid to boost connectivity between the capital and the north-eastern areas. Shares of SpicejetBSE 2.86 %, Jet AirwaysBSE 3.07 % and InterGlobe Aviation gained 2.86 per cent, 3.07 per cent and 2.26 per cent at Rs 77.40, Rs 450.10 and Rs 879.75, respectively.
