CarGurus Inc. does not attract much attention for an online business with 23 million monthly visitors. In fact, it doesn’t even attract much attention compared to other tech companies in Massachusetts.

But the Cambridge-based company behind the automotive shopping website, led by former TripAdvisor Inc. co-founder Langley Steinert, has been quietly executing over the past 11 years. Now it’s the best bet to end Massachusetts’ year-long drought of tech IPOs.

The company filed regulatory documents on Sept. 15 to pursue an initial public offering of $100 million, but that’s a placeholder number that is likely to change as CarGurus talks to potential investors. CarGurus’ financial underwriters could release within the next week a price range…
